Extra Credit: Outside Reading Essay

To raise a midterm grade, or a final exam grade by one full letter, students may write a paper comparing and contrasting our textbook (Challenge of Democracy) with one of the following three books:

• Recarving Rushmore, by Ivan Eland

• Obamanomics by Timothy Carney (NOTE: There are two books with this title, check the author and make sure to read the right one!)

  *Santa Monica Public Library has The Bush Betrayal, and Obamanomics, but their website is laaaaaaame, and makes it really hard to link to them. Here's the website http://www.smpl.org/.

After reading one of the books from the list above, write an essay contrasting the views presented with those in our textbook.

• The paper must be at least 10 pages, but no more than 20.
• The paper must include at least 10 of the Bold Terms found in our textbook that relate to the book that you are writing on.
• This will be due on the last day of class at the latest (early papers are encouraged, but not mandatory.)
